Adroit and BOOM cause upsets on day one of ESL One Birmingham Online

ESL One Birmingham 2020 Online kicked off today for the
Southeast Asia region and all six teams would play their first series – with some
massive upsets already coming out from the event.

Today begun with an extremely hype matchup between Fnatic
and Team Adroit, both of whom had shown some brilliance through the year so
far. For Fnatic, they were still on their way back to the top of the region –
having recently won the DOTA Summit 12 with a thorough demolition of OG back in
April. Adroit and Fnatic had met recently too, in the Grand Finals of ESL One
Los Angeles Online SEA, where it was Fnatic who took an easy victory – but today
the tables were turned.

Although FNC showed up strong in the first game, almost mockingly
stomping over Adroit, the squad fought back with everything that they had over
the next two games. Adroit almost threw the series away in game two when they
gave up a significant net worth lead little after the half hour mark – but managing
to pull that back spelled disaster for FNC. Winning both game two and three saw
Adroit causing the first upset of the day at ESL One Birmingham Online.

For the second game of the day we would see Geek Fam taking
on Reality Rift but there were no surprises here. Having constantly seen rather
impressive results in recent times, although mostly within regional
tournaments, GF did not have any problems dominating the RR lineup over two
games. While RR did have a better start to the first game of the series, it was
nowhere near enough to hold back the GF lineup who ran away with a 2-0 victory.

To close the day, we would see another huge series as TNC
Predator would take on BOOM Esports. While TNC were still considered one of the
best teams in the SEA region, they had fallen a long way since their domination
at the MDL Chengdu Major late last year but they had a chance to turn
everything around again in the spate of online tournaments. However, BOOM had
other plans in store for them – plans that took less than an hour to enact in
game.

Over two games, which lasted a combined total of only 50 minutes, BOOM would only give up a total of six kills to TNC and completely destroy them, causing the second upset of the day at ESL One Birmingham Online. TNC were never allowed to find their footing and would have to look ahead in the event to improve drastically.

Tomorrow the action from ESL One Birmingham Online kicks of
again for SEA with TNC versus Adroit followed by GF taking on BOOM and Fnatic
against RR to close out day two.
