After Two-Year Hiatus, Valve Announces Next CS:GO Major to be Played in Stockholm

After trying, but ultimately having to cancel both the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Majors in 2020, Valve has awarded the first Major for 2021 to the PGL Esports. The PGL Major Major Stockholm 2021, set to take place from Oct. 23-Nov. 7, will now have the largest prize pool ever at a Major at a cool $2M USD. Additionally, it will be the first Major to be broadcast in 4K at 60 FPS. This marks the third CS:GO Major ever to be held in Sweden and the first for Stockholm which will be held at the Ericsson Globe in front of a live audience, from Nov. 4-7.

Last year the COVID-19  pandemic devastated the Major scene, forcing tournament organizer ESL to cancel its Major that was set to take place in Rio De Janeiro. ESL made a valiant attempt to save the Major by postponing the event from May to November, but as COVID numbers spiked over the course of the year, it had no choice but to simply cancel.

The PGL Major Stockholm 2021 will be the third CS:GO Major in which PGL will be involved and has prepared some upgrades in relation to viewer experience. The tournament organizer is looking to add some innovative Augmented Reality elements, brand new custom HUDs, and other new features to be announced at a later date.

The CS:GO Major system started in 2013 and is widely regarded as the most prestigious championship events in the scene.
