Free Fire World Series Participant Test Positive With COVID-19 – The Esports Observer

Garena announced on its Free Fire esports social media channels that one person who traveled from Brazil to Singapore for the Free Fire World Series (FFWS) has tested positive for COVID-19 after landing in the host country. The Brazilian team Fluxo, which won the Brazilian Free Fire League (LBFF) in March, traveled to Singapore for the competition, but the announcement does not make it clear if who tested positive is a player, coach, or any other team member.

The announcement notes that the person has tested negative before departure in Brazil and was already in Stay-Home Notice (SHN) in Singapore: “After being tested positive, the participant was taken to a hospital for treatment, having recovered completely and was discharged from the hospital. The participant now follows his remaining time in SHN.⁣”

Garena also revealed that people with whom the person had contact are also isolated in special rooms. The fact shall not affect Fluxo’s participation in the competition, as Garena told The Esports Observer that “no player or team is currently at risk of being eliminated from the FFWS.”

Garena claims to be cooperating with Singaporean authorities to grant health protocols and the safety of all involved in the event. Last week, representatives from India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan were disqualified due to measures taken by the country to fight the pandemic. The Free Fire World Series (FFWS) begins on May 22.
