Continuing the growing trend of online influencer chess competition, esports organization Panda Global has teamed up with Chess.com for a tournament featuring top Super Smash Bros. players.
The Smashers Gambit will see Panda Global’s own players, including Eric “ESAM” Lew and Tyler “Marss” Martins, competing against six other pro smashers, including Cloud9’s Joseph “Mang0” Marquez and TSM’s William “Leffen” Hjelte.
The tournament will be held on Feb. 6-7 to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and will be broadcast on the Twitch channel of Panda’s newly-signed chess streamer Anna Cramling.
Chess.com kicked off the influencer chess craze last summer with the launch of the Pogchamps tournament series, the latest iteration of which was recently announced with presenting partner GRIP6.
