The Fusion announced the news on Twitter last night, saying that the team’s operations “will temporarily relocate to Seoul, South Korea,” for the upcoming Overwatch League season. The announcement confirms the team will compete in the Pacific Conference for the 2021 season, temporarily leaving the Atlantic Conference.
The post states that the players’ health and safety “remains a top priority” as the team moves to Seoul. The franchise is working with the Overwatch League and Seoul health officials in order to “ensure the wellbeing of [their] players, coaches, and staff” while in the city.
The Philadelphia Fusion was one of the best teams of the Overwatch League throughout the 2020 season, finishing second in the regular season and fourth in the play-off stage. The announcement post concludes by promising Fusion fans the team will continue fighting to bring home an Overwatch League championship title, “no matter [their] physical location.”
The 2021 Overwatch League season is expected to start sometime early next year. The Philadelphia Fusion will compete in the Pacific Conference starting with the 2021 season.
