More roster moves are happening in the Call of Duty League ahead of the Free Agency period for 2021. Earlier today, the Toronto Ultra announced that it dropped several players from its official CDL roster. In turn, the team also revealed that two starters from 2020 are staying on for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The dominoes from the 4v4 announcement are continuing to fall, as the Ultra become the latest team to make roster moves before Free Agency begins on September 14. However, this is the most action we’ve seen to date.
Toronto Ultra drop half of its CDL roster
In total, the Ultra revealed that six players from its 2020 roster have been released. This includes the following: Loony, MettalZ, Lucky, Classic, Brack, and Mayhem. Perhaps the biggest surprise from this list is Classic, who was a big reason why Toronto brought home a Home Series championship.
Nevertheless, all six of these players will now look for new homes for the 2021 CDL season. It’s difficult to envision many of the dropped players landing a starting spot on a team, however. With Classic as the exception, the dropped players didn’t have a huge impact on the Ultra during the 2020 season. Pair this with the fact that 2021 is even more competitive now that the format is 4v4 and you can see why it might be difficult for these players to find a starting spot.
After that string of releases, the Ultra also revealed that two starters will remain on the squad for 2021. Both Tobias “CleanX” Juul Jønsson and Cameron “Cammy” McKilligan will remain with Toronto for next season.
As of right now, we’re unsure of the other two starters from 2020, being Anthony “Methodz” Zinni and Ben “Bance” Bance. Presumably, the two are weighing offers from Toronto and other organizations. Free Agency for the CDL begins on September 14 so we should hear something by then.
