13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim Is Coming To Switch Next Year

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim suffered from slow sales when it first launched on PlayStation in 2019. It was later boosted by an international release, with the most recent estimate putting it at 400,000 units sold – meeting developer Atlus' standards.

Today, it looks like this success is set to continue. 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is officially being ported over to Nintendo Switch, bringing this adventure and real-time strategy mashup to a whole new audience, or just fans who want to bring it on the go. It's set to launch on Switch April 14, 2022.

The news was dropped with an announcement trailer, giving us a taste of what the game will look like on the console.

It doesn't look like Switch players will be treated to any exclusive content, rather the developer is going for an incredibly faithful port of the critically acclaimed game.

Despite the low sales, 13 Sentinels has always been a hit with fans and critics alike. It currently sits at an 85 on Metacritic, with a user score of 9.1 out of ten. As the trailer boasts, it also scooped up a good amount of accolades, including nominations for "Best Narrative" at The Game Awards, "Game of the Year", "Best Graphics", and "Best Rookie Game" at the Famitsu/Dengeki Game Awards, and even won "Best Scenario" and "Best Adventure Game" at the same show.

Much like the game's worldwide release, it's possible that the Switch port was internally delayed due to complications caused by COVID-19. Despite 13 Sentinels initially launching in Japan in 2019, it wouldn't see a release outside of the country until September the following year, as lockdown halted localization efforts. Since then, Japan – along with the rest of the world – has struggled to fend off rising COVID cases, likely impeding the development of the port.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim will be available on Switch April 14, and can already be picked up on PS4.
