Nintendo Switch exclusive Bayonetta 3 is definitely coming out this year and will release… on the same day as Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2.
Rarely has a rumour been so quickly proven correct as this. Only this morning it was noticed that proper age ratings had been added to Bayonetta 3 on Nintendo’s websites and now, just a few hours later, they’ve confirmed its final release date.
Age ratings listings are usually a pretty cast iron source of information and, just as was implied, it seems the game will be coming out earlier than expected, on October 28.
That’s exactly the same day as Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and while that game isn’t on Switch it does seem an odd choice if Nintendo wanted to maximise the game’s visibility, especially as the rest of the season is so quiet and this is a rare mature-rated exclusive.
Most publishers seem to lose all common sense when picking release dates though, so it’s better to focus on the good news, which is that the date was announced via a new trailer.
It’s hard to tell what exactly is going on in the trailer – which is just as it should be – but the plot seems to involve some sort of multiverse angle, which has been all the rage lately.
That ties into earlier theories that there’s more than one Bayonetta in the game, possibly including the short-haired woman with the grappling hook.
This is an important release for PlatinumGames as while they’re usually hailed as one of the best action game developers in the world, they’ve had a run of below par games recently, culminating in the dreadful Babylon’s Fall.
They’re not showing any signs of nervousness though and followed up the release of the new trailer by tweeting that there’s be an option to turn off nudity in the game, via something called ‘naive angel mode’.
Knowing Platinum, that could easily be meant as a joke but Bayonetta does famously battle in the nude, since what seems to be her clothes is actually her hair. When using certain moves her naked body becomes visible beneath, although in previous games all you really saw was a hint of derriere.
