Best Mobile Game Receives Most Votes For The Game Awards

The Game Awards is fast approaching which has sparked lively conversation and debate regarding what should be crowned the best game of 2021. Deathloop, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and It Takes Two are among the titles to be nominated this year. It isn't just about Game of the Year though, of course, as there will be 30 awards up for grabs come December 9, 2021.

One of those categories is Best Mobile Game, and according to Game Awards host Geoff Keighley, that category has been receiving more attention than ever before. “We are setting new voting records for The Game Awards one key insight: The most voted for category so far: Best Mobile Game,” Keighley revealed on Twitter over the weekend. Keighley added that he believes this is the first year that has happened, and he is attempting to get a geographical breakdown of where the votes are coming from.

Some of those who have heard the news have been busy hypothesizing what may have caused this surge in mobile gamers wanting to let the world know their favorite game. There are more people playing games on mobile than any other platform, simply because far more people have mobiles than consoles or gaming PCs. It's interesting that this year more of them are getting involved in Game Awards voting, though.

One major factor behind that might well be the continued rise in popularity of Genshin Impact. While the game launched more than a year ago, its following has grown an incredible amount since the last Game Awards. Genshin is one of five games nominated for the Best Mobile Game award and with a tight-knit and passionate fanbase, it's highly likely word that it could win the award has spread and Genshin fans the world over have been frantically casting their votes.

Whether the uptick in votes for Best Mobile Game can be attributed to Genshin players or not, it seems likely MiHoYo's title will be the one taking home that particular award come December 9. Of its four competitors, Pokemon Unite is probably the one that poses the biggest challenge. Genshin lost out to Among Us last year but InnerSloth's smash hit didn't make the cut this time around.
