Leaked set photos from the Borderlands movie have given us our first, proper look at Cate Blanchett’s take on Lilith, the Siren from the planet Dionysus. This is one of the first major character photos we have seen since the adaptation was first announced back in 2015.
As reported by the Daily Mail, the photos reveal Blanchett sporting Lilith’s signature red hairdo along with the edgy Cyberpunk outfit. The overall look seems to be in line with the original character, barring a few modifications.
These photos were taken during reshoots on Thursday which were being held in Los Angeles, and as we can see in the images embedded below, her outfit is far less colourful than Lilith's in the games. Her jacket and pants are a deep black instead of a mix of yellow and brown, while her shirt is a dark maroon red instead of the paler pinkish red of the games.
We found out that the movie was going through extensive reshoots recently, when it also changed hands from director Eli Roth to Deadpool director, Tim Miller. It was supposed to come out last year, which never happened, and we still don’t know when exactly it will come out. To top it off, we don’t have a trailer or teaser yet, which has fans less than optimistic given that it was announced eight years ago.
While a trailer might still take some time as the reports of reshoots only recently came to light, its star-studded cast is something to look forward to. Apart from Blanchett, we know that Kevin Hart is playing Roland, Jamie Lee Curtis is playing Tannis, Ariana Greenblatt is playing Tiny Tina, and Jack Black is playing Claptrap. Haley Bennett has also been cast in a mysterious role, which will be a new character added to the movie.
The movie will be a part of a “Borderlands Cinematic Universe” according to Gearbox CEO, Randy Pitchford, which means that the characters will say true to the games, but the stories may differ.
