Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Unveils Multiplayer, Beta Starts October 8

Last month Activision dropped news that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War was in development – a direct sequel to the original Black Ops. Today, the company pulled the curtain back on the highly-anticipated multiplayer mode for the upcoming title, giving us a glimpse at different weapons, game modes, and characters.

The debut kicked off with an adrenaline pumping trailer that showed off a few of the maps we can expect to see. One of them took place in the streets of Miami, another was at sea in the North Atlantic, while others were in Uzbekistan, Moscow, and Angola. All of them relied heavily on vehicles, with players roaming the battlefield on boats, tanks, and snowmobiles. The developers claim that most locales will include both wide open spaces and tight corridors, meaning you’ll always have a corner of the map that fits your playstyle.

As for game modes, Black Ops Cold War brings back Team Death Match, Domination, Search and Destroy, and Control. However, you’ll also be able to experience VIP Escort, a brand-new game mode. This 6v6 mode will select one player as a VIP who much escape the map at all costs. If the VIP is killed by the other team, the game is over instantly. And, unlike the other players who will be able to customize their weapons, the VIP only gets a pistol. Treyarch says there’s a lot of nuance to these small scale battles, and teamwork is more essential than ever.

Create-A-Class and Scorestreaks will also return – however, Scorestreaks won’t reset upon your death, allowing more people to enjoy these powerful perks. You’ll also no longer be restricted by the Pick 10 system, and you’ll be able to put anything you want into your Primary, Secondary, Lethal, and Tactical slots. And, by popular demand, Gunsmith is making a return. Every primary weapon can be customized with 54 attachments, meaning you’ll have a lot of choices when it comes to creating your perfect gun.

Most exciting, Black Ops Cold War will support cross-platform and cross-generation play. Progress will also transfer between Warzone and Cold War, although we are yet to see how exactly that will be implemented.

There’s a lot more to come, and we’ve only scratched the surface of what Cold War’s multiplayer modes will offer. Black Ops Cold War will release on November 13, but PlayStation 4 players will get early access on October 8. In the meantime, anyone who pre-orders will get a bit of content they can enjoy right now in Warzone.
