Call of Duty Modern Warfare Christmas Event 2019 latest news, rumours & reveals

Call of Duty Modern Warfare has been one of the most popular releases in 2019, even by Activision's already lofty expectations for their annual Call of Duty game.

The one thing you can guarantee on is that the developers won't forego the chance to keep the game as fresh as possible in the months ahead.

A new Battle Pass feature launching early December will no doubt go some way to helping create that all-important post-launch stream of content.

But we can probably expect the team to also roll out some sort of Christmas themed event as well. So here's a quick piece of speculative chin rubbing to contemplate what Infinity Ward could have in store for fans.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare Christmas Event – Release date and Start time?

First up, we did say this was speculative, so lets take a look at the past games Christmas events. That should give us a fairly decent idea of when the event could launch.

In the case of Black Ops 4, the holiday festivities went on December 13 for just 13 days, ending on December 26.

The year before with Call of Duty WW2, Sledgehammer Games went live with the Winter Siege on December 8th for just over 3 weeks until January 2.

Going back even further Infinite Warfare also got in on the act with some holiday-themed fun that started on December 8th with a hoilday themed rework of the Genesis map – all before the 12 Days of Winter event started on December 21.

Running in tandem, Modern Warfare Remastered also released a re-skin of the map "Crash", which had the same layout as the regular version of Crash except with a Christmas theme taking place at night, starting December 13th.

By all accounts then, we can likely expect any Christmas themed event for Modern Warfare to start somewhere between December 6th and December 13th .

Call of Duty Modern Warfare Christmas Event – What will be included?

At this very early stage, it's impossible to say with 100% certainty, but based on past years events there are a few similar features we can likely expect to see.

For instance, it's likely we could see some new maps released, potentially alongside one featuring a special Christmas or winter-themed re-skin.

Knowing that this is Modern Warfare, can we suggest that the release of something such as the Sub Base map as a possible Christmas surprise?

Earlier this year, data miners at VG Sources crawled the files from Modern Warfare's Open Beta and discovered two lists of maps in the in-game files. This included eight gunfight maps and 44 game-wide maps.

The list of 44 maps did include classic Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 maps including 'Shipment', 'Rust' and 'Terminal' and yes, 'Sub-Base'.

We'll also go out on a limb and suggest that with a newly launched battle pass, with both paid and free streams of content, Infinity Ward will be rolling in money.

So, feeling flush, we'll go out on a limb and suggest that we can foresee Activision and the developer releasing a free trial of the game and it's multiplayer for a week just before Christmas.

If that doesn't bring in a newfound stream of new players, then we don't know what else will.
