Today has seen a new Call of Duty Modern Warfare update released for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Infinity Ward announced the news via its social media pages, confirming that further Playlist changes had been made. This would have been surprising for some fans, who had only just seen Infinity Ward provide a new map and variant modes on February 25.
Explaining some of its decisions, Infinity Ward confirmed that they had removed Infection from multiplayer.
This was due to a technical error involving XP and not something to do with a gameplay bug problem.
“The Giant Infection playlist was giving out a little too much XP, so we just rolled out a playlist update to remove the mode while we work on a fix,” Infinity Ward confirmed today.
This would have been doubly problematic later this week as Activision plans to launch a new Double XP event.
Other changes were also confirmed in new patch notes shared today, including a number of bug fixes.
One big change is the removal of the Rank Reset issue which caused confusion yesterday.
COD Modern Warfare patch notes can be found below:
- Removes rank reset prompt screen after yesterday’s update
- Fixes for Regiment invites
- Fix for the Quick Fix Perk not functioning as intended while used as a Specialist Perk
- Fix for killstreaks still functioning in CDL playlists
- Final Fantasy 7 Remake FANS treated to double dose of good news
Following today’s update, there is a chance of another small patch being deployed to fix some of the issues found by the development team.
This will be followed by the weekend Double XP event, which kicks off, starting on February 28 at 10 AM PT until March 2 at 10AM PT.
This will allow gamers to finish challenges, complete ribbons, or master Trials and earn Double XP for their efforts.
There’s been a lot of Double XP offered during Season 2 by Activision and that has led COD fans to question whether something new will be added to the Battle Pass in the coming weeks.
There’s been a lot of speculation regarding a new Battle Royale mode going live in early March, and this might explain why Activision is giving fans plenty of time to complete their Battle Passes.
A new Warzone Battle Royale would no doubt come with more content for the Battle Pass, although Activision has yet to announce any plans for this.
