Cyberpunk 2077 Release Date delayed until September 17, 2020

CD Projekt Red has announced that Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed and will not meet it's April launch.

Subsequently, the release date has moved from its original April 16 release date until September 17 later this year.

For those unaware, Cyberpunk 2077 is a huge new RPG from the makers of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, a game largely agreed to be one of the best role-playing games we've seen this generation.

A message from the developer reads:

"We have important news regarding Cyberpunk 2077’s release date we’d like to share with you today.

"Cyberpunk 2077 won’t make the April release window and we’re moving the launch date to September 12, 2020.

"We are currently at a stage where the game is complete and playable, but there’s still work to be done. Night City is massive – full of stories, content, and places to visit, but due to the sheer scale and complexity of it all, we need more time to finish playtesting, fixing and polishing. We want Cyberpunk 2077 to be our crowning achievement for this generation and postponing the launch will give us the previous months we need to make the game perfect.

"Expect more regular updates on progress as we get closer to the release date.

"We’re really looking forward to seeing you in Night City, thank you for your ongoing support!

The game centres on an open-world, action-adventure story set in Night City, a megalopolis obsessed with power, glamour and body modification.

You play as V, a mercenary outlaw going after a one-of-a-kind implant that is the key to immortality. You can customize your character’s cyberware, skillset and playstyle, and explore a vast city where the choices you make shape the story and the world around you.

It also stars Keanu Reeves as a sword-wielding cyber-ninja. Yea…

At the time of writing the game is still scheduled to release for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

However, with the release moving closer to the launch of Sony's PlayStation 5 and Microsoft's Xbox Series X next-gen consoles, it's likely the game might also be a cross-gen release.
