Cyberpunk 2077 release date on PS4 and Xbox One will be just the start

If everything goes to plan, the Cyberpunk 2077 release date on PS4 and Xbox One will be just the start of a much bigger project. A new announcement from developers CD Projekt Red has confirmed that an Xbox Series X upgrade is coming with the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox One. That means that if you buy a copy in 2020 and then upgrade to the new Xbox console, you’ll get to play a better version of the game.

The same could happen with the PS5, however, Sony has yet to provide information on the current situation.

CD Projekt SVP of business development Michal Nowakowski, gave this update during a Q&A earnings call:

“In terms of Microsoft’s console, like I said, we have officially confirmed both the update and the cross-gen availability, meaning that you’ll be able to play the game from the get-go on the next-gen.

“However, when it comes to a proper, full-blown next-gen version, that’s going to come later, we haven’t announced when and I don’t have a new comment here on that.

“But a patch will be available to everybody who purchases the Xbox One version here and now from the get-go, once that update is live they’ll be able to download that free of charge.

“That’s the announcement we have officially made and again, I cannot really comment on the policies of the first parties before they officially announce them.

“There’s no official announcement coming from PlayStation so we really can’t confirm or deny anything.

“It’s PlayStation that first needs to address these issues and then we’re happy to make a comment, but we can’t jump the gun ahead of them.”

Playing Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox One, and then on Xbox Series X, certainly sounds like there are big plans for the game.

And the quote also reveals that a next-gen version of the game is in the works, although CD Projekt has pulled back on this claim.

A spokesperson told VGC earlier this week: “The “full-blown next-gen version” Nowakowski referred to is the previously announced Xbox Series X upgrade.”

So while CD Projekt is not ready to talk about a next-gen version, and perhaps there never will be, it does confirm that Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be relevant past 2020.

This is without mentioning the plans being drawn up for Cyberpunk DLC, which will be officially announced before the game arrives on PS4 and Xbox One.

This new content will mimic what was offered during the release of The Witcher 3, which included both free and paid-for DLC.

Meanwhile, the Witcher 3 DLC packs added five new quests, as well as new weapons and armour sets.

A New+ Game Mode was also made part of the package, which helped extend the life of the game.

So fans can expect plenty of new content following the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, and that’s good news for fans.

Both the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansion were well-received and seen as excellent additions.

So there will be plenty of hype building before the launch of the base game in the coming months.

The Cyberpunk 2077 release date has been set for September 17 2020, on PS4, PC, Google Stadia and Xbox One.
