Nintendo has given an in-depth look at new character Dragon Quest Hero for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, who is available to download from tomorrow.
In a special ‘livestream’ format, Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai delivered a wealth of details about their next DLC character, who features the most special moves of anyone in the franchise.
More importantly, they announced Dragon Quest Hero will be available in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on Wednesday 31 July for anyone who purchased the Fighters Pass, while he can also be purchased separately for £5.39.
The new character is split into four separate skins representing different games across the Dragon Quest franchise, namely Dragon Quest XI S, Dragon Quest III, Dragon Quest IV: Chapters Of The Chosen, and Dragon Quest VIII: Journey Of The Cursed King.
These four heroes all have their own different colour variations and the original voice actor for each, with their attacks including a mix of spells and sword swipes.
The most interesting new move is the down-B special, which brings up a Japanese RPG-style menu and features four random attacks from a possible list of 16 available.
These range from increasing your attack power, reflecting projectiles, putting opponents to sleep, making yourself invincible, to huge explosions of magic – with each depleting your MP gauge.
His final smash is the Gigaslash – where you team up with all the heroes to deliver a potentially fatal blow.
They also debuted the stage which comes with the bundle titled Yggdrasil’s Altar based on a location in Dragon Quest XI S. There is also a wealth of new songs, new spirits and Mii fighter costumes from Dragon Quest also included.
The new character coincides with the Version 4.0 update to the game, which introduces a time limit on the final smash meter to prevent people from storing the ability, a new ‘very easy’ difficulty in adventure mode, a new feature in spectate mode which allows you to earn in-game coins by predicting the winner, and an online tourney mode.
Dragon Quest Hero is available in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on 31 July.
