It seems that the Phantom Thieves are easier to catch in the land down under, as EB Games are releasing Persona 5 Royal early in Australia.
Persona 5 Royal is the upcoming updated version of Persona 5, which adds a new party member, new enemies, new confidants, new dungeons, and an entirely new third semester of the school year that wasn’t present in the original game. Review copies of Persona 5 Royal are out in the wild and the reception to the game has been incredibly positive so far.
Persona 5 Royal is meant to be released on March 31 in Europe and North America, but it seems as if the game has been released early in Australia. The EB Games Australia Twitter account has announced that Persona 5 Royal is out now, with commentors talking about how they have been able to purchase the game in-store.
It’s possible that the release date is being relaxed due to the current global period of self-isolation that is going on due to the coronavirus. People are desperate for entertainment during this time, which is something that games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Doom Eternal have benefited from. Perhaps Atlus is being loose on the release date of Persona 5 Royal in order to make sure it gets into the hands of fans faster?
Persona 5 is one of the most beloved JRPGs of its generation and it was one of the best games released in the previous decade. The fans have waited a long time to hang out with the Phantom Thieves once more (unless they shelled out for Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth), but for once, the impatience might be justified. The fans need the Phantom Thieves now more than ever, so maybe Atlus should acquiesce and release Persona 5 Royal in Europe and North America early, so that everyone can steal some hearts during this time of crisis.
Persona 5 Royal is supposed to be released for PlayStation 4 on March 31, 2020. It’s available to purchase now in Australia.
