Stock of the PS5 may have run out again in the UK but some lucky fans have already got their consoles after ordering today.
Trying to get hold of a PlayStation 5 has been a nightmare for many, ever since the console first launched last November. Stock has been extremely limited and usually sells out in minutes – but it also gets delivered quickly as well.
Like many retailers this month, Argos got in new stock of the console and, for reasons best known to themselves, decided to put them live on their website in the early hours of the morning.
Staying up till 2am to buy a console is not the way most people would want to spend their Monday night but ordering them so early in the day has had one benefit: they’ve already started turning up at people’s homes today.
It all makes a nice change from fans venting their understandable frustration at how the process has been handled, with Sony (and Microsoft) offering no guidance on when stock is available or making any attempt to stop scalpers.
Instead, it’s been left up to individual retailers to do what they can, with the likes of Amazon and Currys PC World attempting to find a technological solution for keeping out scalpers who then sell the consoles at greatly inflated prices on eBay.
It’s not clear what defences Argos had, but putting the stock online at 3am in the morning seems like it would actually favour bots, since they don’t have to worry about getting up for work in the morning.
Clearly there’s some people that will be happy with their decision though, especially as Argos seem like they’ll be the last major retailer to get stock this month, after Very.co.uk this morning.
