Fortnite Finally Comes To The Google Play Store

Epic Games has finally made Fortnite available on the Google Play Store. It took 18 months, but the hit title will finally be easily accessible on all Android devices.

Before it was added to the Google Play Store, users had to manually download Fortnite from Epic’s website or use a preinstalled “Play Fortnite” app to install the game on their phone. It was a weird move — after all, who doesn’t want their product listed on one of the largest mobile marketplaces? However, since Google takes a sizable 30% of a game’s profit, it made sense for Epic Games to milk as much as they could from Fortnite before biting the bullet and listing on Google’s platform.

Epic Games official statement says that “Google puts software downloadable outside of Google Play at a disadvantage, through technical and business measures such as scary, repetitive security pop-ups for downloaded and updated software.” The statement then goes on to say that Epic Games hopes Google rethinks its policies surrounding third-party downloads, but we doubt that will ever happen.

The Play Store is still making an absolute killing — why would they change anything now? Fortnite, on the other hand, is being attacked on all sides by Warzone, Apex Legends, and PUBG, making it more important than ever to make it easily accessible to all players. By coming to the Play Store, Epic Games is hoping more people will install the game and help bolster its numbers.
