Genshin Impact Voice Actor Elliot Gindi Let Go After Sexual Harassment Allegations

The voice actor who dubbed Genshin Impact character Tighnari's English lines was recently accused of sexual harassment by fans, including minors. On February 8, people came out on Twitter and made allegations against Elliot Gindi, many of which he later confessed were true, although he claims he never "knowingly did anything with anyone underage". Today, Genshin Impact announced Gindi would no longer be voicing the character due to "a breach of contract".

As soon as news of the allegations broke, fans and other voice actors, and even developers were calling for Gindi to face consequences, such as having his lines redubbed. Players were suggesting people switch to non-English voiceovers to avoid hearing Gindi while he remains in the game.

Genshin Impact has confirmed that Tighnari's lines would be re-recorded by someone else. "At present, we are communicating with the voice recording agency regarding matters of casting and re-recording. We will gradually replace Tighnari's existing in-game voice lines, and issue these updates in the corresponding announcements."

Gindi was accused of coercing fans he was in relationships with to send him nude photographs and threatening to commit suicide if they ever came forward about his behaviour. Gindi admitted, "All of the screenshots of the chat logs. Yes, all of the cringy sex talk," was real, and that he threatened to kill himself.

However, Gindi denies claims that he "did not respect someone's pronoun changes" and that he "was not 'waiting' for someone 15 to turn 18. I flatly rejected them."

At the time, voice director Chris Faiella said "Trust that I am doing everything that I can, using what limited power I do have, to rectify this situation," and it seems they and others calling for Gindi's removal from the game were successful.
