With the possible exception of the flawless Elden Ring, Horizon Forbidden West is up there as arguably the best new game released in 2022.
This shouldn't come as too much of a surprise since the game received rave reviews, including five stars from Daily Star's own Tom Hutchison.
Now one of the game's leading creatives has more or less confirmed that the team will return for a third game in the series.
For those who don't know, Forbidden West was itself a sequel of PlayStation's hugely successful new IP, Horizon Zero Dawn.
The game followed the adventures of Aloy, a young huntress living in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by dangerous machines.
Following that launch in 2017, it seemed more a matter of when, not if, Guerrilla Games would be allowed to create a follow up.
Well, if there was ever any doubt that Sony would allow the developer to return for a third instalment, it's almost certainly been answered in a new interview between VG247 and creative director Mathijs de Jonge.
“Indeed, there is plenty of backstory that we can tap into to develop new storylines and create new mysteries from what we’ve already established," de Jonge said.

“Indeed, this game [Forbidden West] ends with another big cliffhanger, where we’re setting up some things for the next game once again.”
Looking to the future, Sony has already announced a VR spin-off game called Horizon Call Of The Mountain, although there's very little information about what the game could entail.
So far all that is known is that it'll be for Sony’s PlayStation VR2 headset and developed by Firesprite, a smaller PlayStation studio based in Liverpool.
Likewise, the game is said to focus on a brand-new protagonist, but don't worry, supposedly Aloy will still make an appearance.
