Sonic Frontiers' launch is now less than two months away, and as we inch closer more details about what will hopefully be the biggest and best Sonic game in years are revealed. The latest reveal comes in the form of a leak rather than official confirmation as footage giving fans a better look at Big the Cat, which also reveals his role in the game, has found its way online.
Confirmation that Big would play some part in Frontiers was unofficially confirmed during Gamescom. Shortly after its November 8 release date was revealed, a photo of two people playing Frontiers was shared on social media. Peer between them and you could see Big holding a fishing rod. The more extensive look at that scene from the game (thanks, TrueTrophies) has added context to that sneak peek.
In the clip, Sonic can be seen meeting with Big, at which point the cat hands the hedgehog a fishing rod and teaches him how to fish. Yes, this leak also confirms Frontiers includes a fishing minigame, and Big is that game's keeper. Sonic proceeds to catch a fish and trades it in for a token. Presumably a form of currency you can spend on other things in the Starfall Islands.
Sonic fans are understandably pretty pleased Big will be making his return to a tentpole blue blur game via Frontiers. While the character has been included on the rosters of games like Team Sonic Racing and the Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games series, it's been a while since Big was a part of an actual Sonic story. Then again, that may not be the case in Frontiers. For now, Big is little more than the fishing guy, but that's better than nothing.
The full cast of Sonic characters returning for Frontiers hasn't yet been revealed. Dr. Robotnik's inclusion has been confirmed, but his role in the game remains unclear. Amy was also shown in the story trailer which debuted at Gamescom, and it's assumed Knuckles will have a role to play since the echidna's appearance in a Frotniers' prologue was revealed earlier this year.
