The official Madden Twitter account is teasing something related to SpongeBob SquarePants, set to be revealed on January 7. There’s not much to go on – just the phrase “Are You Ready?” and a giant yellow image – but fans are already curious as to what the collaboration could be.
Of course, the best collaboration would be Squidward’s Sweet Victory performance made available in Madden 21, something that would make up for the bungled halftime performance at last year’s Super Bowl. Others want SpongeBob and Patrick to be added as commentators to the game, although we think the chances of that happening are slim to none.
Most people, however, are simply confused by the teaser – after all, the two IPs don’t share much common ground.
There’s one good reason for the collaboration, though, as a portion of the NFL Playoffs will be broadcast on Nickelodeon this coming weekend. The playoff game will feature content that caters towards a younger demographic, including a Nickelodeon-themed halftime event. This is the first time Nick is teaming up with the NFL, and it’s likely the partnership is spilling over into Madden.
Whatever the two are working on, we won’t have to wait long to find out. The product of the collaboration will be revealed on January 7, just a few days before the NFL Playoffs begin.
