Magic: The Gathering – Every Drop In The Winter 2023 Secret Lair Superdrop, Ranked By Value

2023 is off to a great start for Magic: The Gathering players with a brand new Secret Lair Superdrop to spice up their collections. There are seven unique Secret Lair sets in this Superdrop, each one with a unique take or twist to the regular Magic cards you might find in packs.

If you’re looking to pick up these Secret Lair collections you might want to check out the value of the cards before purchasing the drop. Some of these cards will be more popular because they’re used in various decks while others are getting fancy new formatting to coincide with the Magic’s return to Phyrexia. The value of these Secret Lairs is taken from TCGplayer’s Market Value based on the regular, non-foil versions of the cards on 2/8, and as such, they may change over time.

7 Ssssssnakessssss – $49.77

Snakes are front and center in the Ssssssnakessssss Secret Lair, featuring five creatures of the reptile variety complete with new borderless and full-art designs.

This Secret Lair brings art from five distinct artists: Hexdrinker features art from Boneface, Lotus Cobra is done by CROM, Seshiro the Anointed shows off the work of NIARK1, Ice-Fang Coatl ironically is illustrated by Crocodile Jackson, and the now-infamous Stonecoil Serpent has art by Laynes.

Lotus Cobra stands tall among these Snakes, being one of the best mana rampers in Commander, if you’re playing lots of lands and have ways to capitalize on its landfall ability. With all that mana you can use it to level up your Hexdrinker into a nigh-unstoppable force, capable of becoming a 6/6 creature with protection from everything your opponents would throw at it.

6 Artist Series: Sam Burley – $49.80

This Secret Lair is dedicated to artist Sam Burly, a fantastic artist who has contributed to more than 70 amazing cards, including the Zendikar Rising Expeditions Cavern of Souls, Glorybringer, and Supreme Verdict. While this Secret Lair has a black, red, and green Jund theme, Burley got to include one of his favorite red cards, Braid of Fire.

The fearsome Dragon Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund headlines this Secret Lair, being a powerful Dragon-themed Commander, while Master of the Wild Hunt provides some unique token generation, and Koth of the Hammer is one of the best red planeswalkers Magic has seen.

5 City Styles – $66.66

Artist Tsubonari brings to life one of the best-dressed Secret Lairs we’ve seen yet. These full-art and borderless cards take four legendary creatures and put them in fashionable new outfits, along with a dreamy take on a classic piece of equipment.

The four legendary creatures in this drop are Sakashima the Impostor, Massacre Girl, Azusa, Lost but Seeking, and Teysa Karlov with the last card being a Paradise Mantle. Any one of these cards would help you make a bold statement as your commander, and would be a welcome inclusion in your decks.

4 Draw Your Hand – $73.23

A follow-up to 2022’s Shades Not Included Secret Lair, the Draw Your Hand features four cards with brand new stylized cards from proxy artist Tyler “RopeArrow” Day. These cards feel like abstract horror movie posters, with trippy colors and patterns that give them an otherworldly feel.

Eldrazi Conscription and Counterbalance are the two big hits from this drop, both featuring psychedelic art and some creative ways to display the card’s mana value and text. If you love eyes all over your cards, then Deafening Silence is a sure hit, giving you that feeling that someone’s always watching. Bruna, Light of Alabaster rounds out this Secret Lair, bringing a sort of divine serenity with the art.

3 The '90s Binder Experience – $79.55

The ‘90s Binder might be one of the most visually overwhelming Secret Lairs released yet and for many, it is a blast from the past all the way back to their school years. These five cards pull inspiration from Lisa Frank’s supremely colorful designs, giving them the full art treatment from Paul Mafayon.

The cards in this drop include Alms Collector, Crested Sunmare, Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma, Rin and Seri, Inseparable, and Exotic Orchard. Alms Collector and Crested Sunmare are both powerful Commander cards that can provide tons of advantage for you over the course of the game.

2 Phyrexian Faves – $94.45

The Phyrexian Faves Secret Lair brings five iconic cards from Magic’s history, each one related to Phyrexia in one way or another. Three of the cards are key players in Infect decks, Blighted Agent, Glistener Elf, and Inkmoth Nexus. Meanwhile, Batterskull has been a mainstay in Legacy equipment packages for years and K’rrik, Son of Yawgmoth is a popular and powerful Commander card for players to build around.

Each of these cards’ usual text has been replaced with the Phyrexian written language, as well as featuring a fancy border.

1 Showcase: All Will Be One Step-And-Compleat Edition – $123.85

Giving your cards the red carpet treatment has never been easier than with the Step-And-Compleat foils from this Showcase Secret Lair. These five cards from Phyrexia’s past all have new Ichor artwork, bringing them back to Magic in a terrifying new way.

These iconic Phrexian cards would not normally get the Ichor artwork, nor the Step-and-Compleat foiling so this is a unique chance to bring a new style to your deck. This Drop includes Phyrexian Unlife, Phyrexian Crusader, Plague Engineer, Ertai, the Corrupted, and Glissa, the Traitor. One of the standout cards from this drop is Phyrexian Unlife, which can be used to prevent all damage done to you, and has one of the best new artworks from the drop.
