The PS5 and Xbox Series X will reportedly face a Nintendo Switch Pro console later this year. And not only will this new upgraded Nintendo experience launch in 2020 but it will happen before the next-gen consoles arrive. Some analysts have already come out and backed this idea before the latest report was shared. And that should make for some very interesting reading for PlayStation and Microsoft heading through 2020.
Industry followers have been backing the company to do something like this ever since the Switch launched in 2017.
It would fit with Nintendo’s past MO when it comes to its handheld console business, although they’ve never gone quite as far as what is being rumoured for this year.
But it makes sense that Nintendo might want to pull out the big guns now, considering that PlayStation’s PS5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X are pencilled in for launch later this year.
While these products will offer exclusive features and appeal to different gamer demographics, Switch sales could still be affected.
Neither Sony or Microsoft are expected to release handheld consoles, leaving the Nintendo Switch biggest name in town for that category.
But the PS5 and Xbox Series X have the clout to pull the oxygen from the room, while also making the Nintendo Switch look dated.

Both consoles are expected to offer 4K gaming at 60fps as standard, something that will not be possible on Switch.
But a Nintendo Switch Pro offering just that might be enough to keep PC gamers flocking to the handheld console as a secondary device.
And having read some predictions being made by industry experts, fans have also been given the latest rumour regarding Nintendo’s plan for a Pro console.
These include reports backing the launch of an upgraded handheld console later this year.
Taiwanese electronics newspaper DigiTimes claims that the Nintendo Switch Pro will launch midway through 2020, which probably means Summer 2020.
And while not calling it a Nintendo Switch Pro, DigiTimes reveals that it will be an updated version of the current model, offering an upgrade to the CPU.
There is no mention of other eye-catching features being included, but you would expect them, given that the new Nintendo console is expected to retail at a higher price.
And if a new console is set to be released later this year, we could perhaps hear more about it in the Spring, followed by a full reveal during E3 2020.
Nintendo has failed to comment on these recent rumours and has stated that they have nothing to reveal at this time.
But that in no way rules out a big reveal coming our way before the release dates of the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
Past reports have suggested that Nintendo had plans for an upgraded Switch console and a handheld-only device.
And since we have been given the Switch Lite, it would make sense for the other half of that report to come true.
Nintendo even went as far as to rule out announcing a new console during last year’s E3, only to show off the Switch Lite a month later.
“As a general rule, we’re always working on new hardware, and we will announce it when we are able to sell it,” Nintendo CEO Shuntaro Furukawa revealed last year.
“But we have no plans to announce that at this year’s E3 in June.”
