Pokemon Go is hosting a new in-game event this month, this time centering around Electric-type Pokemon. In addition to this, this event, titled the Crackling Voltage Event, will make several unique bonuses and features available if you participate.
This in-game event will be available for about a week's time, taking place from Friday, January 27 at 10am local time to Sunday, February 5, at 11:59pm local time. There is a lot to know about this event, including multiple smaller events that take place within Crackling Voltage's event window, so we've put together a guide with everything you need to know.
Event Wild Encounters
With this Electric-themed event, there will be a change in the Pokemon that are frequently found in the wild. Most of the Pokemon that will have an increased spawn rate during this time will be fitting the theme of this event, mainly possessing an Electric typing.
Make sure to log in and adventure during this event for a chance to encounter and catch the following event-themed Pokemon.
Event Wild Encounter Pokemon
This event will mark the first time that Helioptile's Shiny variation will be available in Pokemon Go. Make sure to participate in this event for the best chances of encountering and catching this new Shiny debut.
There will also be a change in the Pokemon found in Raids during the Crackling Voltage event, many of which fit the Electric-theme of this event. Make sure to group up with other Trainers to attempt these Raids, giving you the chance to earn several in-game rewards, including an encounter with the defeated Raid Pokemon.
This will be the first time that Tapu Koko will have the chance of being Shiny, being one of the Five-Star Raid Pokemon during this event window.
Additionally, you will have a higher chance of encountering the Shiny form of Helioptile when encountered as a reward following this Pokemon's defeat in One-Star Raids.
Event Raid Pokemon
Tapu Koko and Mega Aerodactyl will be available in Raids from Wednesday, January 25 at 10am local time to Wednesday, February 1, at 10am local time.
Registeel and Mega Gengar will be available in Raids from Wednesday, February 1, at 10am local time to Wednesday, February 8, at 10am local time.
Additionally, if you catch Registeel during this event, it will know the Charged Attack Zap Cannon.
Event Egg Pokemon
There will be a change in the Pokemon that can be hatched from 7km Eggs during the Crackling Voltage event. These Pokemon will also be following the theme of this event, many of which are Electric types.
The easiest way to obtain 7km Eggs is by opening Gifts sent to you by other Trainers on your friends list.

Hatching Helioptile from 7km Eggs during this event will increase the odds of it being Shiny.
Event Field Research Task Encounters
There will be Event Field Research Tasks available throughout the course of this event, acquired by spinning Photo Discs at PokeStops and Pokemon Gyms. Completing these Field Research Tasks will reward you with an encounter with an event-themed Pokemon, each provided below.
