Despite launching just over a year ago, the PlayStation 5 is still almost impossible to get hold of.
Much to the frustration of customers, the PlayStation 5 console sells out immediately after going on sale.
This has led to second-hand prices going through the roof, especially at places like eBay and CEX.
Fortunately, however, second-hand prices have started to drop, and just in time for Christmas.
At CEX, for example, a boxed PS5 can now be purchased for £695, compared to more than £800 at its peak.
It’s still a lot more expensive than buying a brand new PlayStation 5 console, but at least they’re actually in stock at CEX.
The PS5 is even cheaper on eBay, where PlayStation 5 consoles average between £500 and £650.
You’ll need to be careful when buying from eBay, making sure to check to seller’s review scores, closely reading the product description, and paying with a card.
Customers should also pay close attention to the postage costs when buying through eBay, as well as the estimated delivery times.
If you would rather risk it and buy a brand new console, then Express Online posts a weekly live blog featuring restock alerts.
PS5 UK restock alerts for GAME, PlayStation Direct, Argos and Amazon stock drops
You should also keep an eye on the newly launched PlayStation Direct website, where Sony sells PS5 consoles directly to customers.
The site offers fans the chance to purchase everything from PS Plus subscriptions and hardware, to games and accessories.
The US Direct website receives stock on a regular basis, so don’t be surprised to see a restock later this week.
In order to give yourself the best possible chance of securing a console, PS5 UK Stock Alerts recommends setting up a Sony account sooner rather than later.
More PS5 buying tips can be seen below.
Amazon – PS5 Disc console
Amazon has been a great place to purchase the PS5 in the UK this year. However, if you want to be first in line you better update your Amazon Prime subscription. That’s because Prime members tend to get “priority access” to PS5 restocks at Amazon UK.
Very – PS5 sign-up
Very also offers a range of PS5 purchase options for its restocks, including standalone consoles and bundles including accessories or subscription services. You can head to the Very PS5 sign-up by clicking here to receive email updates on the PlayStation 5.
GAME – PS5 consoles, bundles
GAME has been one of the best places to buy a PS5 in the UK in 2021. GAME sells the PS5 Digital (£359.99) and PS5 Disc (£449.99) consoles separately as well as a range of bundles that include accessories, games and more.
Argos – PS5 Disc
Argos has been the other best place to purchase a PS5 in the UK this year. One of the best things about ordering a PS5 from Argos is customers have been able to pick-up a shiny-new PS5 console from their local Argos store not too long after placing their order.
Argos – PS5 Digital
Unlike GAME, Argos typically only sells standalone PS5 consoles. The cheapest PS5 purchase option at Argos is the PS5 Digital console, which is priced at £359.99. With past restocks Argos has offered same day in-store collection as well as home delivery.
John Lewis – PS5 Digital and Disc
John Lewis is another leading British retailer which has been taking orders for the PS5 online. The iconic high street store has received restocks in the past for the both the PS5 Disc and PS5 Digital consoles. But with John Lewis you need to act quick as stock tends to get snapped up fast.
Currys – PS5 order hub
Currys is another UK retailer that has been taking orders for the PS5 this year. For the majority of 2021 Currys online orders have required a VIP code. But we’ll have to wait and see whether this scheme changes as PS5 stock – hopefully – becomes more readily available.
BT – PS5 code required
Telecoms giant BT also lets customers order a PS5 via its official online shop. To be in with a chance of purchasing a PS5 with BT you’ll need to be a customer and you’ll also need to register your interest online.
EE – PS5 code required
As with parent company BT, EE also sells the PS5 to its customers. But you’ll need to register your interest, have received a code and also need to be an existing customer on a handset plan that is within the first 17 months of their contract.
AO.com – PS5 store
AO.com is another retailer that has adopted innovative approaches to its PS5 restocks. While some PS5 restocks have been purchased via the conventional online route, others have required customers to call-up the retailer to place an order. You can head to the AO PS5 store to find out the latest deals the online shopping is running right now.
ShopTo – PS5 stock alerts
ShopTo is a specialist gaming retailer which also has been taking orders for the PS5 in 2021. If you want to be alerted to when ShopTo is getting more PS5 stock then you can sign-up for e-mail alerts on the retailer’s website today.
The Game Collection – PS5 games, consoles, accessories
Another gaming specialist retailer which has been getting PS5 restocks this year is The Game Collection. The retailer has previously opened orders for bumper bundles that include games and accessories. While you wait for the next restock you can check out the wide range of other PS5 items the retailer has in store as well as any money-saving deals The Game Collection is running right now.
