Rumor: Xbox Series X Version Of Microsoft Flight Simulator To Launch On June 15

Microsoft Flight Simulator might be flying onto Xbox Series X as early as next week if this GameStop store listing is to be believed.

It wouldn’t be the run-up to E3 without at least one retailer accidentally listing a game before it’s officially announced. It looks like this is the case with the Xbox Series X version of Microsoft Flight Simulator which could be flying onto consoles as early as next week if this GameStop listing is to be believed.

First spotted by a keen-eyed Resetera user, Microsoft Flight Simulator has seemingly been listed on the GameStop website with a June 15 release date. The same user then shares a development roadmap for the game, pointing out that a new trailer is supposed to drop on June 10, hinting that an official announcement could be made during Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest show which is also kicking off on June 10.

Xbox announced that Microsoft Flight Simulator would be coming to Xbox Series X|S in the summer of 2021 during The Game Awards last year, although we’ve had no updates on a potential release date since. Seeing as the game is already out on PC and the public already knows of plans to bring it to Xbox Series X, it feels like the perfect game to do a “you can play it right now” style of announcement.

Microsoft Flight Simulator exploded in popularity when it released in 2020, presumably because it offered people a chance to visit overseas destinations during a year when travel was pretty much banned worldwide. Even before releasing on consoles, the title managed to amass over 2 million players by the end of 2020.

This impressive feat is also likely the result of consistent post-launch support seeing the game receive numerous updates as well as VR support. Microsoft Flight Simulator has also seen a surprising amount of modders creating unique content for the game, like this mod which sticks a giant Gundam model on top of a Gundam factory in Japan.

Microsoft Flight Simulator is currently only available on PC although an Xbox Series X|S version is due to release at some point this summer. If you’d like to learn more about the game, you can read our review here.
