She-Hulk VFX Team Was Reportedly Told To Make Her "Smaller"

If you haven’t heard, the trailer for Disney Plus’ She-Hulk series, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, dropped earlier this week. The series follows lawyer Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) as she learns to live with her hulk-sized alter ego. While fans have been eager to see She-Hulk enter the MCU, the trailer left many disappointed and a little angry. People began to argue that She-Hulk’s physique and overall build were too small to accurately represent the character. Well, it turns out that the smaller size of She-Hulk may have been intentional.

After the release of the trailer, VFX artist Sean Ruecroft took to Twitter to offer a little explanation as to why the titular character looked less “hulky” than she should: “I was at a company that did VFX for this. Apparently, she was bigger early on, but the notes kept saying to ‘make her smaller’”. He continued to say that “We always roll our eyes (like we did on Sonic) but at the end of the day artists gotta follow orders”. While Ruecroft was not part of the team working on She-Hulk, he does have experience with Marvel having lent his talents to the VFX of Infinity War and Moon Knight.

While the tweet has since been deleted (thanks CBR for the transcript), this seems to make She-Hulk’s smaller size an intentional move by Marvel. An odd choice, especially considering the outcry that fans have expressed at a smaller Jennifer Walters. Not to mention the fact that the trailer showcases She-Hulk next to her hulked-out Cousin Bruce Banner. In comparison, Walters looks almost like your average human woman, just green. Of course, others are happier with the smaller size, arguing that the smaller frame is more comic accurate.

Beyond the VFX discord, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law appears to lean heavily on humor rather than the darker tones of previous shows like Moon Knight. While much of the plot is unknown, it seems to follow Walters as she adjusts to life as both a green-hued superhero and a normal lawyer. All will be revealed when She-Hulk: Attorney at Law premieres on Disney Plus on August 17.
