As we eagerly await the return of Star Trek: Prodigy's first season, fans of the show can add a Prodigy spinoff game to their wish list. Star Trek Prodigy: Supernova was just announced as an all-new adventure starring everyone you've come to know and love from the Star Trek cartoon.
Star Trek Prodigy: Supernova comes courtesy of Outright Games and developer Tessera Studios. Today's announcement trailer only showed a brief snippet of gameplay, but it seems like the game will be a top-down isometric action game. Take control of either Dal R’El or Gwyndala to make first contact with an alien species, learn about their history, and then start blasting phasers at an evil robot army.
"After the Protostar picks up strange readings from a dying star, Dal R’El and Gwyndala race against time to save their friends, their ship, new alien species and an entire planetary system before a supernova destroys them all," reads the game's description on the official website.
"When the Protostar’s malfunctioning transporter scatters the crew across three alien planets, Dal and Gwyn must use their wits and skills to overcome ingenious puzzles, endure hostile environments and battle deadly robot armies to rescue Jankom Pog, Rok-Tahk, Zero and Murf. But as they search for their friends, they soon discover a sinister and deadly new enemy, one that will stop at nothing to destroy the Protostar and change the very course of history!"
From the sound of things, the show's main stars will reprise their roles to provide the voices of Dal and Gwyndala. Star Trek Prodigy: Supernova can be played solo or with a friend, and promises both action and challenging puzzles in an all-new story.
Star Trek: Prodigy Supernova arrives October 14 on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, and Google Stadia.
In other Star Trek news, a Deep Space 9 writer had to remind Fox News that Star Trek is and always has been "woke."
