Ted Lasso could be officially making his way to FIFA 23 soon. The Twitter handle for the TV show recently posted a picture of what looked like Coach Lasso, played by Jason Sudekis, undergoing a 3D facial capture.
The post’s caption reads, “Look out, Mario! You're not the only pixelated man with a mustache who never knows where the tube is taking him…”. This doesn’t officially confirm a FIFA 23 appearance; however, the facial capture rig in the photo holds the key to deciphering it. The rig used looks exactly like the one EA currently uses to capture 3D scans of its players’ faces. Additionally, EA Sports FIFA’s official account has also responded to this post with an emoji, which basically confirms that it is happening.
Additionally, it seems that Coach Lasso is also bringing his team, AFC Richmond, along with him. A recent leak revealed that AFC Richmond showed up in the list of teams on the official FIFA 23 website. However, EA quickly pulled it down and even struck down some posts sharing this info. This adds fuel to the fire that it was indeed true, and this tease just reaffirms it.
Ted Lasso recently won multiple Emmys, and is also one of the highest-rated shows of all time. Furthermore, this is the last FIFA title EA is making as EA and FIFA have ended their partnership after 28 years. Owing to this, the partnership with Ted Lasso will skyrocket the game’s popularity and ensure that its ride into the sunset is a success.
FIFA 23 is also introducing a number of additions and changes to the game. For instance, the Croatian national football team will finally be a part of the game after 11 years. Furthermore, EA has also introduced its new HyperMotion2 tech. A number of gameplay mechanics like jostling and technical dribbling have also been tweaked to look more realistic. The Career Mode also received an overhaul where it will now have RPG-style personality points for the characters.
FIFA 23 launches on September 26, 2022.
