Square Enix has revealed a Final Fantasy 6 1/6 scale Masterclass statue that features Tera aboard some Magitek armour, and it costs a whopping $11,500.
Final Fantasy fans will be well-aware by now that Square Enix likes to sell some pretty expensive merchandise, but it might have set a new record last night when it revealed the Final Fantasy 6 1/6 scale Masterclass statue for sale. The statue features Tera on top of some Magitek armour, as well as a nameplate, interchangeable parts for different faces and poses, and a little Moogle you can put on the staute.
The video shared of the statue shows that it's absolutely enormous and a very impressive piece by Square Enix, but the price point of 1.45 million Yen, or $11,500 is sure to put even the biggest Final Fantasy 6 fan off shelling out. Square also confirmed that the statue would be limited to 600 pieces worldwide, with 150 of those going exclusively to Japan. Pre-orders for the statue will run until they reach the limit of 600, and it's expected to start shipping on July 23, 2023.
For comparison's sake, Square Enix's first figure in the Masterclass series, one of 2B, 9S, and A2 from Nier Automata, cost around $2,478 altogether. Why there's such a big difference in the pricing between the two isn't clear, but it's drawn the ire of many fans and even former Square Enix employees. Legendary Square Enix director Hironobu Sakaguchi Tweeted, "Even compared to the cost of making dioramas for Fantasian. Isn’t that a bit much? Are you okay with Square Enix?"
This incredibly expensive piece of merchandise should be no surprise to anyone that's used to Square Enix by now. Just the other day we reported that it was selling Kingdom Hearts tumblers that cost $600 each, which is still a far cry from the more-than-ten-grand you'd be shelling out for this statue, but is still a reminder of how common this is for the company.
