This is what the PS5 console looks like, including the cheaper digital edition

Sony has shown more than expected during their PlayStation 5 reveal event, with not only a ton of games but the console itself as well.

After months of silence, Sony has finally revealed what the PlayStation 5 console looks like and showcased many of its upcoming games.

There was no mention of a price or exact release date, but they did show off the stylish design for the console, which is very different from any of the previous PlayStations.

The big surprise though was that there are going to be two models from the start: a more expensive version with a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray drive and a Digital Edition that doesn’t have any kind of disc drive.

Sony’s never had a digital edition console before but judging by the Xbox One the price difference is likely to be relatively mild, and probably no more than £20 to £40.

Although since Sony never talked about the hardware in detail there could be other differences that increase, or decrease, that gap.

The reveal event lasted for just over an hour and 10 minutes and also showcased a digital camera, wireless headphones, and media remote that fit in with the same look as the console and the previously revealed DualSense controller.

We’ll get into all the games later but most of the recent rumours proved to be true with first looks at Horizon Forbidden West (i.e. Horizon Zero Dawn 2), Gran Turismo 7, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Resident Evil 8, and a number of other third party games.

There was also the announcement that an enhanced and expanded version of Gran Turismo 5 would be coming to PlayStation 5 next year, although it will be coming to Xbox Series X as well.
