The 29th Marvel film now has a trailer to go along with a release date. Thor: Love and Thunder will bring back Mjolnir and a new lady Thor later this summer.
Thor actor Chris Hemsworth dropped the teaser on his Twitter feed and promised "All the feels of a classic Thor adventure. Big, loud and crazy, and full of heart. You’ll laugh you’ll cry, then you’ll laugh so much you’ll cry some more!!"
Given that Taika Waititi returns as director for Thor: Love and Thunder after the massive success of Thor: Ragnarok, Hemsworth’s words are likely to ring true. Guardians of the Galaxy cast members will also reprise their roles, with Chris Pratt returning as Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax, Bradley Cooper as Rocket the raccoon, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, and Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot. Christian Bale joins the cast as Gorr the God Butcher, who will likely turn out to be the main antagonist of the film.
In the trailer above, we see that Love and Thunder isn’t going to be your typical superhero film. In fact, Thor comes right out and says his "superhero days are over" right at the start of the trailer. A montage scene shows Thor going on a spiritual journey after spending some time with the Guardians, where he apparently co-opts Star-Lord’s style (and possibly even his wardrobe).
Right at the end, we see a familiar hammer return in the hands of a brand new female Thor played by Natalie Portman. That’ll be something for the comic book fans to explain, but we’re going to stay as spoiler-free as possible here.
Thor: Love and Thunder arrives in theaters only on July 8. And if you’re looking for whom the next Spider-Man villain might be, the No Way Home Blu-ray release has dropped a few clues.
