It's another delay season as more and more titles move into 2022. Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong is among them, now targeting May 19 instead of a very full February.
Big Bad Wolf, the team behind Nacon's game, dropped the announcement about this "difficult decision" on Twitter. The devs said those three extra months will ensure the highest possible quality for the narrative RPG without breaking a "healthy work-life balance" for the small but passionate team. Simply put, Big Bad Wolf wants to prevent crunch in the final stages of development and this undoubtedly is a wise move.
According to the crew, the new delay will allow them to apply some additional polish and provide extra testing for this product that "rivals the sort of personal storytelling you'd experience from a great tabletop session." Swansong is based on the fifth edition of the Vampire: The Masquerade tabletop game and the team aims to capture the same overall feeling. The studio thanked everyone for their patience and support.
Fans of the Vampire franchise might remember that it's not the first postponement for Swansong which was originally slated for release this year. Yet it seems the pandemic threw a couple of wrenches into the studio's planning.
The next installment in the Vampire: The Masquerade series, Swansong, aims to deliver a world of political intrigue and supernatural mystery that will draw you in, force you to make hard decisions, and face the consequences. The game will feature a variety of diverse characters, dialogues full of choices, plot twists, and several endings. Big Bad Wolf wants you to think about the game long after the credits roll and have a reason to go back and relive the adventure.
Aside from Swansong, there are other projects in the World of Darkness universe which are in development including the long-suffering Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. Earlier, Paradox Interactive revealed the sequel was on the edge of being completely scrapped, but another unannounced "reputable and talented" team came up with some credible ideas for the game. Bloodlines 2 has no release window just yet, but the game probably won't be coming out in 2022.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong is coming to PC via Epic Games Store as well as to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
