Alhough Mario is usually quite a chill guy, even the most mellow of us occasionally feel the need to unleash a Persona 5 All-Out Attack on somebody every once in a while. And Nintendo’s mascot looks super neat doing it in this stylish collaboration fan art piece.
Now, all kinds of series and genres have their own take on special moves. From the Fatalities of Mortal Kombat to the ultimates of Overwatch and the limit breaks of Final Fantasy, these attacks all tend to have a few things in common: they’re flashy, they can’t just be spammed, and they deliver a whole heck of a lot of damage.
The Persona franchise utilizes an intriguing battle tactic dubbed the All-Out Attack. The circumstances of activating one has differed over the course of these series, but the essentials remain the same: if all foes on the screen can be knocked into a defenseless state at the same time (by a critical hit or similar), the party is given an opportunity to unleash a… well, an all-out attack, with everybody attacking simultaneously.
As with everything in the franchise, the attack is accompanied by a dramatic cut scene with an especially stylish finale if said All-Out Attack finishes off the enemies. If you’re not a Persona player, you’ve probably still seen this sort of thing in action as Joker’s Final Smash in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as pictured here.
This begs the question, though: if Joker can perform an All-Out Attack in a Nintendo game, why can’t Mario? According to this fantastic piece of collaborative fan art from @Jigglyking20 et al, he can.
With Luigi, Peach, and Daisy wading in to help Mario, poor old Bowser will likely still be feeling that tomorrow morning. Still, of all the ways to commemorate Mario’s 35th anniversary, this is one of the most creative.
Now all we can think about is exploring a whole Mushroom Kingdom-roaming RPG with this art style. We hope that’s next on the list, Nintendo.
