This March, Valve may prove VR-only games are worth the investment. That month will mark the release of Half-Life: Alyx, the company’s first major game in the space after it experimented with smaller, one-off experience like The Lab and Aperture Hand Lab. We’ll see if their gambit works out, but if you were already looking for an excuse to buy a VR device, there are a few ways to get your hands on a one that can play Alyx. Of course, there are other VR games on the horizon, too, like Phantom: Covert Ops and Marvel’s Iron Man VR, and we’ll cover all of the headsets that are compatible with them, including Oculus Quest and PlayStation VR.
The best VR deals going on right now is for the all-in-one Oculus Quest, which proved so popular during Black Friday it’s selling out or accepting back-orders at many retailers. However, if you can find an Oculus Quest before January 31, you’ll get all three episodes of Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series as long as you activate your headset within 30 days of purchasing it. Amazon’s stock of the 128 GB and 64 GB options are on back-orders, as is Oculus’ is accepting back-orders on both versions, but you can still get one before March.
Oculus Quest (64GB/128GB) with Vader Immortal | $400/$500
Available for back-order; compatible with Half-Life: Alyx
Over at Amazon, the 64 GB option is back-ordered until later this week, while the 128 GB option won’t ship until February 25. Oculus, on the other hand, won’t have either option until late next month–specifically, February 25 for the 64 GB version, and February 27 for the 128GB version. The Oculus Quest doesn’t need to connect to a PC, which gives you full freedom to move within your designated space. However, if you’re interested in plugging it into a PC, Oculus recently introduced Oculus Link, which lets you connect your Quest to a PC with a high-quality USB 3.0 cable (which is the only way to play Half-Life: Alyx on the device right now).
You can see all of the best VR deals below. We know there’s interest in Half-Life: Alyx, so we’ve made a note of pointing out which ones will be ready to go for its March release date.
VR deals and discounts
Samsung HMD Odyssey+ | Starting at $348 (

HTC Vive Cosmos | $700

In addition to the headset and controllers, it comes with a six-month subscription to Viveport Infinity, a service that grants players access to a library of VR games and experiences.
PlayStation VR 5-Game Mega Pack | $299
This PlayStation VR bundle was very popular during Black Friday, and while it’s not discounted anymore, it’s still an excellent bundle you should grab if you’re looking to invest in PlayStation VR. It includes the PSVR headset, PlayStation Camera, and five of the platform’s best games: Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Skyrim VR, Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, Everybody’s Golf VR, and PlayStation VR Worlds.
Oculus Go (32GB) | $149/$200 (
The Oculus Go headset’s focus is more on media viewing. It’s a great headset for watching movies, shows, and other videos, but you won’t be able to play any of the games on Steam.
