Nintendo might want to get a move on and announce a 2020 release date for Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 on Nintendo Switch.
If leaked sales figures are anything to go by then Nintendo can’t afford to delay, because The Legend of Zelda appears to be as popular as it’s ever been.
Indeed, according to a report on 4Players (via Gamingbolt), Legend of Zelda Link’s Awakening has already shifted a massive 430k units in Europe.
It was previously confirmed to be the fastest-selling Switch game of 2019 on the continent, although it’s likely Pokemon Sword and Shield will give it a run for its money this November.
With strong sales in Japan, Link’s Awakening has given Nintendo fans a thirst for more Legend of Zelda games in the future.
Fortunately, it looks like that thirst will be quenched with the release of Breath of the Wild 2.
There’s currently no word on a release date, although recent rumours have suggested an early 2021 launch.
The game was a surprise announcement at the end of Nintendo’s E3 Direct conference back in June.
Few details were revealed about the next Breath of the Wild game, other than the fact that it’s coming to Nintendo Switch.
Nintendo also previewed the game with a new story trailer, teasing a dangerous new enemy for Link and Zelda.
Indeed, the game is said to be darker in tone than previous Zelda entries – especially compared to Link’s Awakening.
That’s according to producer Eiji Aonuma, who previously said: “The new Breath of the Wild or the sequel to it, it’s not necessarily going to be related to Majora’s mask or inspired by it… What we showed you currently is a little darker.”
Things certainly looked pretty bleak in the trailer, so let’s hope we see more footage soon.
As for The Legend of Zelda Link’s Awakening, the newly released Switch game is a fully-fledged remake of the 1993 Game Boy release.
It features a colourful new art style, as well as a new dungeon building mode.
Nintendo explains more: “During your adventures, Link will acquire mystical items called ‘Chamber Stones’ that can be arranged into custom layouts to form Chamber Dungeons!
“Mix and match different chambers to your hearts content: place an entrance, add some puzzles, keys, boss battles, and everything in-between.
“Once your Chamber Dungeon is complete, try to conquer it and reap the rewards within!”
