Fans of the classic Baldur’s Gate series of isometric role-playing games are over the moon following the announcement of Baldur’s Gate 3, set to release within the Google Stadia November 2019 launch window. Today it was announced that fans of the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop franchise will be able to play its prequel this September.
Mike Mearls, co-creator of D&D’s 5th edition ruleset, was on hand during the PC Gaming Show at this year’s E3 in Los Angeles. He announced that the upcoming campaign module, titled Baldur’s Gate: Descent into Avernus, will serve as the computer game’s prequel.

Announced last month during Wizards of the Coast’s annual live streaming event, Descent will take tabletop players far outside of Faerûn’s Material Plane for the first time. Mearls says that the story takes place roughly 100 years before the events of Baldur’s Gate 3. The 256-page module spans from level one all the way up to level 13, and is due out Sept. 17.
