After being hosted in Mortal Kombat 11 and Gears 5 last year, The Terminator is making yet another guest appearance, this time in Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint.
Ubisoft teased the T-800’s inclusion in their latest entry into the Ghost Recon franchise on Twitter, announcing that The Terminator would appear in a limited-time event that kicks off on January 29. This coincides with an update that has been expected for Breakpoint for some time, which will also address on-going issues with the shooter.
Although the event itself hasn’t yet been detailed, its structure is strikingly similar to that of The Predator’s inclusion in Ghost Recon: Wildlands. In that limited-time event players had to defend themselves from the stalking invader, eventually being forced to confront it head-on. The Predator is a far nimbler and more unpredictable foe when compared to The Terminator, so it will be interesting to see how Ubisoft adapts the T-800’s unique abilities to evoke a similar sense of exhilaration.
Unlike Wildlands though, Breakpoint is having a far more difficult time attracting players. Ubisoft has already expressed their displeasure with its sales performance, which isn’t surprising after its poor critical reception. GameSpot’s own 4/10 review, by Richard Wakeling, criticized its lack of identity, saying, “It’s essentially every Ubisoft open-world game rolled into one, failing to excel in any one area or establish its own identity. Breakpoint is a messy, confused game and a ghost of the series’ former self.”
