Games for Change’s annual festival recognizing the development of empathetic, educational, and empowering games for social causes will move online this summer, in light of the global COVID-19 pandemic that has indefinitely postponed almost all large public gatherings in the United States.
Additionally, the event is free for all attendees, Susanna Pollack, Games for Change’s president, said in an announcement Wednesday morning.
The festival’s virtual format will continue to offer the programming and formats attendees have expected in the past. “We also recognize that networking is a major part of the Festival,” Pollack wrote, “and we will provide many opportunities for attendees to connect with mentors, funders, vendors, and of course, each other.”
The 2020 Games For Change Festival will be held online July 14-16 and will feature the Games for Change Awards and the XR for Change Summit. The Awards will soon announce nominees, among games launching in 2019, in eight categories. Two categories, Best Student Game and Best XR for Change Experience, were added to the Awards last year.
