Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch

The excellent remake of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater and its sequel came out on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC last year, but the game is heading to a few new platforms soon. On Monday, the skateboarding legend himself tweeted a few cryptic messages about new versions of the Pro Skater remake in the near future, and on Tuesday, Activision officially announced that the game is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.

Hawk’s original tweets were mostly centered around Activision’s upcoming release of Crash Bandicoot 4 on Switch. Hawk said he was jealous of Crash’s new platform and appealed for a little help from the orange bandicoot to get Pro Skater 1 and 2 on new platforms as well. Hawk’s tweet got replies from all kinds of brand accounts, including the Crash Bandicoot account, Activision, and even Nintendo of America, despite the fact that the new versions of the game hadn’t been announced quite yet. This was clearly part of the marketing campaign building to the official announcement.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater remake reflects the changing culture of skateboarding

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 will be the first Tony Hawk game released on Switch. As for the new-gen versions of the game, they will include plenty of graphical updates, including the ability to play at 120 frames per second at 1080p resolution or at 60 fps in 4K. People who own the remake digitally on PS4 or Xbox One will be able to upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X version for $10. Those who own the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game — which already cost an extra $10 — will get the upgrade for free.

We’ve reached out to Activision to ask about upgrades for PS4 and Xbox One physical copies, and about the developer that is handling these ports, since the company recently merged Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 developer Vicarious Visions into Blizzard Entertainment. We’ll update this article with any information we receive.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 is scheduled to launch March 26 on PS5 and Xbox Series X. Meanwhile, the Switch version of the game is set to arrive some time in 2021.
