Watch Dying Light 2’s full E3 demo, plus developer commentary

The full 26-minute E3 demo for Dying Light 2 is now available on YouTube, and fans eager for the next installment of the parkour-focused melee game are in for a treat. It includes a full developer commentary, not unlike what the press were treated to in June.

Dying Light 2 takes place in a fictional amalgam of several European cities. Players must navigate the politics of a city on the brink of vanishing entirely after a global zombie pandemic. First-person platforming is much improved from the original, giving new options that increase the literal depth of the world. The further you fall below the surface, the more dangerous things become, including the risk of losing your own humanity.

To my eye, the biggest change in this demo comes in the opening few minutes spent inside the ramshackle bar. At DE3, developers told me that this would be a major hub and a source for many of the game’s starting questlines. As far as video game bars go, this has to be one of the most interesting I’ve ever seen. There’s a story at every table, and lots of characters that I’d like to get to know. Here’s hoping the team at Techland can push that kind of narrative density out into the open world single-player and multi-player gameplay as well.

Dying Light 2 isn’t expected until spring 2020. It’s launching simultaneously on PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One. For more impressions from the E3 demo, check out our feature story.
