League of Legends Mobile Release Date: When is Wild Rift coming out?

League of Legends Mobile release date has been teased for some time, but Riot Games have finally given the people what they want. Sort of.

To mark League of Legends 10th anniversary celebration, Riot Games announced a slew of new projects, which included Teamfight Tactics Mobile, Rise of the Elements, Legends of Runeterra, Arcane, and something called Wild Rift.

Wild Rift is the one you want to keep an eye on, because it's effectively League of Legends for you mobile.

More or less.

It's a new 5v5 MOBA for mobile and consoles. Although the Riot Team haven't specific which consoles they'll be targetting.

The game will feature much of the same gameplay as LoL on PC, but obviously adapted as such to suit the new platforms.

For instance, Wild Rift will have a new twin-stick control scheme and a rebuilt Rift designed for 15-18 minute games.

Riot are keen to stress that Wild Rift is not a direct port of League of Legends on PC.

A press release really rams this home by telling fans of the series that Wild Rift is "a new game built from scratch to ensure it is a polished, legitimate LoL experience that's worth players' time.

Riot Games have indicated that League of Legends: Wild Rift will launch on mobile in 2020 for Android and iOS.

Pre-registration is already available on the Google Play Store, but unfortunately, there's no further details about precisely when the game might launch in 2020.

The console release date for League Of Legends: Wild Rift has not been mentioned

Although should the team or anyone else from Riot drop any clues you can be sure we'll update you on Daily Star.

League of Legends Wild Rift Console Release Date

A specific console release date for League Of Legends: Wild Rift has not been mentioned.

However, the Riot Games team did provide some clues that suggest it could be some way off.

For instance, whislt we can assume it's coming to PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, it's also possible that it will be developed with Sony PS5 and Xbox Scarlett in mind.

That's because Riot gave the following message when outlining their plans:

“The plan is to have the mobile version fully live everywhere in the world by the end of 2020, with console coming sometime after"

League of Legends Cross Platform Details

Finally, Riot Games also explained that because Wild Rift and the original LoL games are very different experiences, there will not be any cross-platform compatibility.

“The games differ in a few ways, but both include the core 5v5 MOBA gameplay you expect from League of Legends," Riot Games adds.

“Adding cross-platform between League PC and Wild Rift would require compromises of competitive integrity, and we want to make sure the gameplay feels fair and fun no matter which platform you’re most comfortable on."

That being said there could be cross-platform support between mobile and console at some point further down the line:

“During certain big moments throughout the year, we’ll try to coordinate event themes and releases between League PC and Wild Rift, and we’re exploring the possibility of cross-platform play between mobile and console, but nothing locked in yet.”
