Destiny 2 is coming to Game Pass and Xbox Series X

During the Xbox Games Showcase on Thursday, Microsoft and Bungie announced that Destiny 2 and the game’s current expansions — 2018’s Forsaken and last year’s Shadowkeep — will hit Xbox Game Pass this September.

In November, Game Pass customers will also be able to play the new Beyond Light expansion as part of their subscription. Beyond Light is set to be released Nov. 10.

Players will get the standard editions of the expansions via Game Pass, meaning that new Guardians will need to buy seasons like Season of Arrivals or Season of the Worthy separately. However, just owning the major expansions will net players the game’s various campaigns and a host of Exotic weapons. Players can already download the base Destiny 2 game — called New Light as of 2019 — for free.

Microsoft also announced that Bungie will launch a version of Destiny 2 that’s optimized for Xbox Series X. It will run at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second. In June, Bungie announced support for both the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5.

In Destiny 2: Beyond Light, players will travel to Europa, a moon of Jupiter, to face the Darkness for the first time in the series’ history. Players will also acquire new powers via a new element — Stasis — for the first time. Guardians will use these new, Darkness powers to help defend the solar system from Eramis and her united house of Fallen enemies. Bungie recently announced a delay for Beyond Light, from Sept. 22 to Nov. 10.
