Halo Infinite skulls

Halo Infinite Skull locations are a lot like finding the proverbial needle(er?) in a haystack. Except harder. Much, much more difficult. Skulls are super well hidden is what we’re saying. And Polygon’s Halo Infinite Skulls guide will help you find all 12 Halo Infinite Skulls from Boom to Cowbell, Catch, Fog, IWHBYD, Blind, Thunderstorm, Black Eye, Famine, Mythic, Grunt Birthday Party, and Bandana.

There are Halo Infinite Skulls. Some of the skulls can be found as you explore the open landscape of Zeta Halo. Several are only available during missions, you’ll only get one chance to grab them since you can only play each mission once per save file.

Below we’ve listed the location or mission each Skull appears in. Along with the Skull’s name and location, our table below details what each Skull does when activated.

You can see the Skulls you’ve found in Halo Infinite’s Database > Skulls menu. How do you find a Skull? Use your scanner, and look for the outline of a skull.

The images below are courtesy of multiple sources, including Polygon, plus Halo Canon and OrcCorp on YouTube, whose Halo Infinite skulls video we’ve embedded below so you can see the collection in motion as we work on the guide.

Boom Skull (Halo Infinite first Skull)

Behold, the Temple of Boom.

Halo Infinite’s first skull is in its first mission: Warship Gbrakkon. After you head outside the ship, take the elevator up, and head through a few more hallways, you’ll come to a hallway filled with five or so Jackyls. The Boom Skull is in the next room, which you can see in the following screenshot.

The Boom Skull is above the second level of the room.

It’s full of Brutes and Grunts, so clear them out first. Make sure to clear both levels of the room.

You can actually see the Boom Skull’s location as soon as you enter the room, though you have to be closer to the Skull before your scanner will pick it up. We jumped up to the second level, scanned, and hopped back down to the entrance to get the image above, showing the Skull relative to the entrance. (Don’t stand at the entrance and scan for the Boom Skull is what we’re saying.)

So jump up to the second level, and look up and to the right (with your back to the entrance). Press down on the D-pad to scan, and look for the outline of a skull. Ride the nearby elevator-like contraption up, and you’ll find the Boom Skull sitting in a little alcove.

Cowbell Skull (Halo Infinite Foundation Skull)

Because we needed more Cowbell.

Fight your way through the crumbling Foundation until you pick up The Weapon in an exposition-filled cutscene. At the end of the long elevator ride, continue past the hallucination holograms into the next room. The Skull is high above you.

Use your scanner (down on the D-pad) to find it — it’s near the front of the room. You’ll have to get a little creative with your Grappleshot to reach this Skull, but it’s possible.

Hold these for us.

This Skull isn’t tied to a mission, so you can collect it at any point. You might want to save this Skull for a little later in your playthrough because it’s guarded by a pair of Hunters.

Head to the island to the north of Outpost Terminus. The skull is nestled inside a tree trunk at the far end of the canyon.

Fog Skull

They could be anywhere.

It’s possible to grab this Skull with an upgraded Grappleshot, but it’s much easier to take a Wasp. Head to the western side of the open-world map and look along the coast southeast of the Foundation and southwest of FOB Alpha.

Inside these columns is a small opening where this skull is resting on a hexagonal pedestal. The video above shows how to collect the Fog Skull with an upgraded Grappleshot.

Did they really just say that?

Again, the easiest way to find this Skull is by taking a Wasp to the top of The Tower — which means you’ll have to wait until you’ve unlocked it at a FOB before you can reach it. It’s also possible to grab it with an upgraded Grappleshot, but it’ll take a little practice. No matter how you get there, the collectible is sitting on a crate on the platform on the roof of The Tower.

The video above shows how we got this Skull with the Grappleshot. You’ll need to upgrade it to the second level, Quickshot. Climb the Tower from the outside along one of the supports. At the top, Grappleshot onto the platform away from the Tower, and hold the left thumbstick to the side to adjust your flight. At the top of your arc, Grappleshot back to the platform and grab the Skull.

Blind Skull

Great for shooting photos, bad for shooting enemies.

South of The Tower is a small platform between two landmasses. Fly a Wasp in between them to land your ship on the small hexagonal platform where the skull is around a corner.

Thunderstorm Skull

Promotions for everybody.

Near the area with the Banished anti-aircraft guns is a small spire sticking out between the adjacent landmasses. Fly a Wasp over to the columns and land your ship on the small platform. Then use your grapple to make your way up to the highest column where the skull is.

Better get punchy.

Near the south of the open-world map is a waterfall. Halfway up the waterfall is an opening to a small cave with a red light shining inside. Use your grapple to climb the cliff face to the cave containing the skull.

I’m out!

On the eastern side of Zeta Halo is a small island. Over on that small area’s eastern side is a hexagonal platform where a dead elite is holding the skull.

Mythic Skull

Becuase it wasn’t hard enough.

During the mission, “The Command Spire”, you’ll come across an area where columns are being etched with glowing yellow light. Grapple up to one of the moving columns and proceed up into a hole in the ceiling.

Inside the ceiling, grapple up one more level and find a door leading to a hallway. At the end of the hallway is a room containing this skull.

In the area where you reach a terminal that activates several light bridges, ignore the platforms, and instead, you’ll notice two doors that are not connected by bridges. One of them will contain a power seed. Grab it and carefully get it to the other room not connected by a bridge. You can try throwing the seed across the gaps to get it over. If you drop it, the seed will respawn.

Once in the other room, you’ll find a place to plant the power seed. From that point, continue through the level as normal.

Later in the level, The Weapon will mention the Auditorium to you. You’ll eventually proceed into a room where a platform rests high above you. If you did not place the power seed earlier, there would be glass blocking access to a room at the top of the platform. However, with the power seed placed, this entryway is now open. Grapple up and enter that room.

This area contains some invisible enemies and the skull.

Bandana Skull

We did say Infinite.

Proceed through The Silent Auditorium level as normal until you reach the area where Sentinels first attack. Instead of defending yourself, ignore them.

Keep going through the stage until you reach an area where a terminal activates two light bridges. At the opposite end of both bridges is a door. If you haven’t killed any Sentinels, this door will open, giving you access to this skull.
